In this weekend workshop, Ellen invites you to find the poet inside, engaging in the ancient spiritual practice of ecstatic dance in order to release what has been deeply held in your body and heart. This practice will open the door to your own inspiration, that land where the divine comes through you.

This workshop has been inspired by the poems on connection to divine love by Rumi, Hafiz, and other Sufi poets. The beloved poet Rumi was the world’s first “Whirling Dervish,” spinning himself into a state of ecstatic union with the divine. The word “dervish” in Persian means doorway. Dancing with Rumi will use the structure of the 5Rhythms™ ecstatic dance practice to introduce the seven doorways or portals to the realm of the ecstatic dancer and poet. These doorways are related to the seven chakras, the wheels of energy in the body that support, in order: grounded, creative, powerful, heart-full, truth-full, visionary and conscious living. Activating the energy of the seven chakras through ecstatic dance will cleanse and open your body, heart and mind.

With Ellen’s compassionate and experienced guidance, we’ll learn to spin ourselves into the deepest cores of our selves, discovering where we hold energy and how to release control of this powerful part of ourselves. Children are natural spinners, and we also can relearn to engage this simple and powerful tool for transforming our energy. On empty stomachs we will relearn to enjoy dizziness, to go through the doorway of dizziness and enter the land of childlike glee in the present moment, the world of Rumi and the whirling dervishes.

This workshop is open to all levels of experience. Come ready to investigate the power of your being as we create a sacred space together. We’ll share our favorite ecstatic poetry, move, talk, meditate and journal together. Be prepared to move and be moved by your Spirit.

The workshop will begin on Friday 7-10 pm with an introduction and opening dance. Guests who are not participating in the full workshop are welcome to join us on Friday evening for $35.

CALL OUT: Portland and LA Sacred Dancers/Event & Festival Organizers

This is a call out to my sacred dancer kin in the Portland and Los Angeles area codes. As a promoter/participant with Ekstasis Dance (www.ekstasisdance.com) on behalf of my friend Luna Ravenchild I am putting it out there about an opportunity to partake in a weekend long intensive in Kundalini Dance(www.kundalini-dance.com). This form, a nice companion to Gabrielle Roth's Ecstatic Dance continues Luna's sacred dance facilitation which began with the 5 Rhythms. This system,synthesized in its modern form by Antara Decker, integrates awakening the kundalini and moving it through the chakra's is melded with the sounds of the electronic underground. Accompanying Luna is her partner DJ Solus. Currently Luna is the sole facilitator of Kundalini Dance journeys in North America.

Since I am promoting remotely from BC i would like to call upon dancers who are interested in Kundalini Dance as possible participants to assist me in outreaching to your kin who may be interested in this offering. Help with postering will reduce your registration fee(more details available). Anyone who has taken this workshop is welcome to share comments bellow!

i would like to introduce a new member, my divine partner Solus (dakka daddy on tribe) who has teamed with me to help bring the ecstatic vibes to all of you...he has been an amazing blessing and the work continues to grow with his collaboration

we have just returned from a 2 week road trip which included the String Cheese Incindent's Summer Camp and the Shambhala Music Festival (shambhalamusicrfestival.com)...both were amazing festivals attended by lots of people

we will be attending Burning Man so look out for us there...not sure yet how we will be participating...will leave more info here soon...

and then we will be at Earthdance North California assisting Antara in her Kundalini Dance Workshop...so find us there

Community Spiral Dance
Following the Prayer for Peace global link up...

Immediately following the Prayer for Peace on Saturday September 17th we will join hands and dance a double spiral dance. This will be the biggest spiral dance ever created and will depend wholly on the participation and cooperation of all involved. The Spiral dance is a very powerful experience that can weave our collective intentions and prayers into one great vision that we then release into the universe on an incredible wave of voices. This kind of focused prayer has been proven to have tremendous potential for positive change and the dance itself is a great opportunity for us to connect as a community - as we join hands in a circle to dance into the center and out again, we pass each person in the dance and begin to see the many powerful beings that are part of this great turning of the wheel of life!
In the natural world, the spiral is seen everywhere: in the unfurling bud of a new rose, the whorled lines of a seashell, even in the great spiral arms of galaxies. The spiral image appears in sacred art of many cultures. The Native American shamanic tradition holds concentric circles to be "passageways between the natural and supernatural world", and mandalas are sacred symbols used for meditation in Eastern religions which often use spiral motifs. In Australian aboriginal paintings, concentric circles are said to show the location of sacred sites. Spiral images appear in the art of the Huichol Indians of Mexico and in many other cultures around the world. Both single and double spirals were among the most sacred signs of Neolithic Europe. They appeared on megalithic monuments and temples all over the continent and the Celtic islands. Spiral oculi (double twists resembling eyes) appear prominently in places like the threshold stones at Newgrange in Ireland.

How it Works:

Firstly, all participants will move to the outer edges of the field. Then two leaders holding tall banners will begin a slow journey into the center creating a line behin them. As participants chant to the heartbeat of the drum, they will join one of the lines. Those who do not wish to dance can move to the center and hold space there. Each procession will move into the center and then begin to weave back out again - passing the line that is still moving inward. As the lines move in and out, the energy builds and when the two lines meet, all participants will raise their voices and release their intentions to the heavens.

Dancing through the Chakras
In Kundalini Dance the chakras are our journey map. Working with them through rhythmic breath and dance movement expression helps to balance the chakra system as a whole. Each chakra inspires a totally different style of movement and focuses on opening different body parts. Bringing awareness and insight into those deep impulses and patterns that run our lives.

What are Chakras?
The chakras are spinning vortexes of energy located vertically and sequentially up our spines. Physiologically each chakra links the subtle energy body with the physical body, each in charge of channeling energy into specific organs, endocrine glands and body systems.

A way to address the central active principle of our times

What would we be without fire? To honor fire is an age-old custom, we can safely assume that ceremonies using the practical and magical power of fire are as old as mankind. Fire in fact, as its kindling and handling is so specifically human, is the most logical and common tool to converse or address the beyond, the Gods, the otherworld and the archetypical inner world. These days, as many feel we have lost much of the connection with the essential aspects of fire, there is a cry for renewal, for new and meaningful ways to celebrate and honor this source of light, warmth and safety. This can be done in many ways and there are many traditions we can refer to, but especially at larger gatherings there is a need for a more structured approach.

What is an appropriate way to stage a private or public fire-ritual, honoring the traditions of East and West but leaving space for new forms and messages, with a high degree of interaction and participation and yet with the solemn quality and transformational energy we expect at such an event?

In this essay we look into the origins of fire-worship, the myths, rituals and ceremonies associated with fire. Then we discuss the meaning of ritual, the structures and goals and whether anything is achieved, the efficacy of ritual and the magic underlying it. To that purpose, the structure of magic and theoretical models to explain magic are discussed and a quantitative method to evaluate sacred space, magical act and fire-energy is developed. A classification of the subtle energy levels, using FSE (Fire Subtle Energy) grading is tentatively developed.

A universal ritual scenario or liturgy is outlined, based on the common threads in the many, many traditions with fire rituals and combining these in a logical and practical structure, a ritual matrix. Admittedly rituals in themselves are not logical or rational and any interpretation is tainted by our present worldview and paradigms, but discarding them as superstitious and ‘primitive’ denies the influence of the ‘other’ dimension(s) in our lives, our history and our religions. Magic and religion are very closely related, if not actually the same.

Far from tracing all fire-rituals to a common ancestry the fire-ritual outline developed here aims at converging to a form that honors all the ancient and traditional ways of celebrating fire, but leaves room for new expressions. Then the Firedance format as developed in the USofA is described and analysed as an example of a modern way to explore the fire and its magical, mystical and transformational qualities.

An important aspect of fire rituals and maybe the reason I am so fascinated by them, is that there is not only the external fire out there, but also an inner fire in us. The inner fire, the holy fire, the kundalini, by whatever name this energy in us is a formidable force, but one that is hard to accept and acknowledge, at least in my experience. I see fire rituals as one of the ways to get closer to that inner fire, to the deep source inside.

i just returned from a breathwork weekend and wow! wow! wow! it's the third time i've been through breathwork and notice how spiritual and shamanic my journeys are. often with animals, dismemberment and rebirthing of my own self. so profound and powerful.

There is something inside all of us that wants to belong, to feel we are a part of something greater than our individual selves. In the mesmerizing documentary, Dances of Ecstasy (Luna Pictures, 2003), two of Australia’s leading filmmakers explore how different people around the world connect with transcendental forces through rhythm and dance. It is a sensory journey into the world of trance and music that binds dancers from Manhattan to Morocco.

The Sunshine Coast premiere will take place at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons on Sunday, April 10th. The film will be followed by an opportunity for the audience to take part in a short demonstration of a modern ecstatic dance form, and experience their own “Dances of Ecstasy”. ok so hopefully you all have heard about the magik being woven over at Playpoi studios once a week...if not then talk to Ariel, Kaeli, Micheal Bean, St.Even, Carmen, and many others....

I am going to be offering one last six week series of Ekstasis - a journey into Ecstatic Dance - before I go to Australia

I would like to start this series early in March...so please let me know if you are interested...

This series works with breath, movement, and sound to clear out blockages we hold in our bodies, allowing us to open in our dance so that we can become dynamikally activated beings. We work through the seven chakras and five elements focusing on reclaiming our wholeness.

There are many benefits to this series in which I am sure my students can testify:

Luna has been facilitating Ecstatic Dance workshops and classes for the past 6 years. Currently she has been traveling around BC and the west coast guiding Ekstasis workshops at festivals and gatherings such as the Mother Earth Oracle Gathering, Invision 2004, Shambhala Festival, Dancing Dragons Festival, and Earthdance in Calgary. MASTER WU

Master Zhongxian Wu is a recognized master of classical Qigong, music, calligraphy, Taiji, Chinese astrology, and martial arts. As lineage holder of four different traditions of Qigong and martial arts, he has instructed thousands students in the art of Qigong since he began teaching in 1988. He is the Senior Instructor of Qigong in the Department of Classical Chinese Medicine at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. Master Wu also works with patients at NCNM Natural Health Center Clinics, and presents trainings and workshops for professionals and the general public on topics related to the classical Chinese arts.

water words

I saw this documentary the other day that described how a scientist in Asia was doing experiments on how feelings travel through the water in the air. ever notice how much more emotional things feel when it is wet outside? In the experiment there were these water droplets taken from a spring water-fall and then frozen. Each frozen droplet formed a pentagon. when harmonious music was played for the crystals it would grow 3dimentionally in amazing patterns. when they thanked the water and blessed it it would do the same. but when they would call the water a looser and negetive names it would become foul.

Ecstatic dance and raves

Hello, recently joined this tribe. I have been searching for information about ecstatic dance in relation to electronic music for a bit now. They had one at a festival called Dreamfest in '99 and took a lot out of it, would love to have someone at one of my events to teach this sometime or a good book/webpage to learn more about this. Thanks for any info you can help me with!

FYI-The kind I am looking for has a lot to do with differnet body movements in relation to the 4 elements.
